Irene completed her 5-year Bachelor of Pharmacy degree (First-Class Honours) at University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain in 2020. In 2021, after being awarded a studentship of Academic Excellence by Roche Pharmaceuticals, she obtained her MSc in Translational Biomedical Research at Vall d’Hebron Research Institute in Barcelona, Spain. She joined the ICN2 Nanomedicine group in February 2021 to develop her MSc research project, that was framed within the European scientific programme of Graphene Flagship. The aim of the group project was studying Graphene Oxide sheets as vectors of biologically active molecules for neuroprotection and modulation of neuroinflammation.

In October 2021, she joined the Nanomedicine Lab at The University of Manchester as a Research Technician to work on the nanoparticle-enabled plasma biomarkers discovery.
