Rob wins Best Innovation (Diagnostics) prize at CogX Awards 2022

Huge congratulations to Rob for his win yesterday evening. CogX hosts the world’s ‘largest annual gatherings devoted to the impact of artificial intelligence and other new technologies on society and business’ and their awards celebrate the innovators and change makers impacting our world today.

Rob was awarded the Best Innovation in Diagnostics prize for his work around the development of graphene based neural probes. These probes will improve detection of epileptic brain signals and will greatly improve our understanding of the causes of epilepsy. The pioneering graphene depth neural probe (gDNP) consists of a millimetre-long linear array of micro-transistors imbedded in a micrometre-thin polymeric flexible substrate. The transistors were developed in a collaboration between the Nanomedicine Lab and UCL Institute of Neurology, along with their European Graphene Flagship partner ICN2.

Rob said he was delighted to win the award and added that “Dissemination of this collaborative scientific work to a larger audience through the CogX platform will bring to the public’s attention the advantages of graphene-based brain interface devices”.

See this paper in Nature Nanotechnology for further reading on the gDNP.
