BIO

Despoina obtained her 4-year Bachelor degree in Chemistry in 2020 at the University of Crete, Greece, with an excellent grade point average. During her final academic year she performed a research project for her dissertation on the “Synthesis and characterization of Layered Double Hydroxide (LDH) nanocarriers for potential application in Drug Delivery Systems”. In 2021, she completed her MSc studies in Nanomedicine, offered by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, by the Medical School and the Department of Pharmacy. Her bibliographic Master Thesis focused on the “Transdermal administration of nanoparticles”. In April 2021 she joined the Nanomedicine Group at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) in Barcelona, Spain, as a visiting Masters student for 4 months. The aim of her project focused on the study of graphene oxide sheets as carriers of biologically active molecules (peptides, adjuvants) with significant pharmacological activity. Despoina joined the Nanomedicine Group@ICN2 as a PhD student in October 2021. Her current research is focused on the delivery of graphene oxide-based hydrogels to the brain and is funded by the EU Graphene Flagship project.
