Dr. Angeliki Karakasidi
PhD Student
BIO
Angeliki obtained her 4-year Bachelor degree in Material Science at University of Patras, Greece in 2017, with the highest grade point average of her class. For final year dissertation she conducted research on graphene organic derivatives as drug delivery systems of pharmaceutical compounds. In 2019, she completed her Master of Science in Chemistry and Technology of Materials at University of Ioannina, Greece, and her research project focused on chemical functionalization of graphene and the effect on electrical and magnetic properties.
She joined the Nanomedicine Lab at The University of Manchester as a Visiting Researcher in May 2019 to gain valuable laboratory experience by involving in the surface functionalization of graphene and graphene oxide for radiolabeling/imaging purposes in order to determine their pharmacokinetic profile. She is now a full-time PhD student at the Nanomedicine Lab after being offered a 4year CDT PhD studentship in Graphene NOWNANO at the University of Manchester (2019 cohort). Her current research is focused on developing functionalized graphene oxide nanosheets with different biomolecules for glioblastoma treatment and is in collaboration with the Nanomedicine Group at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) in Barcelona, Spain.
