Abbie obtained her BSc in Pharmacology at the University of Manchester in 2019. During her third year of studies, she completed an industrial placement year at the Mayo Clinic, Florida in the Department of Cancer Biology. The year-long project focused on investigating gene expression within the post-lactational mammary gland microenvironment, specifically focussing on the expression of STAT1, PD-L1 and MMP-3. In her final year, Abbie conducted a lab research project within the Maternal and Fetal Health research centre in St. Mary’s Hospital, Manchester. Her project was to characterise a novel PEG-based polymeric particle for drug-delivery during pregnancy. Abbie joined the nanomedicine lab in November 2019 as a biological research technician.
